LGBTQ+ philanthropy at the Foundation
The Envision Fund of the Santa Fe Community Foundation is the largest LGBTQ+ funder in the state of New Mexico with over one million dollars made in grants since its inception.
The Santa Fe Community Foundation partners with the members of the Envision advisory committee and sister community foundations across New Mexico to fund nonprofit organizations that are aligned with our LGBTQ+ funding priorities.
LGBTQ+ funding priorities
The Envision Fund has established four priority areas for making grants:
Creating an HIV-free generation
in New Mexico
Combating discrimination
against LGBTQ+ people in whatever form (such as employment, housing, immigration, access to health services, etc.)
Supporting school-based programs
that create a safe environment for all students, including LGBTQ+ students
Promoting holistic reproductive health and gender-affirming healthcare
by ensuring access to comprehensive sexuality education, voluntary contraception, abortion care, and other reproductive/sexual health services
The LGBTQ+ fund for New Mexico
For over two decades, the Envision Fund has enriched the lives of New Mexico’s LGBTQ+ population by providing financial support to nonprofits addressing the most critical needs facing the community. In 1997, the National Lesbian and Gay Community Funding Partnership provided the Santa Fe Community Foundation (and 37 other community foundations across the country) with grants to enable them to establish LGBTQ+ funds. Foundation leadership, board members, and volunteer members of the committee helped grow the fund’s assets. In 2012, the Fund changed its name from the Lesbian and Gay Community Funding Partnership to the Envision Fund to better reflect the changing face of the LGBTQ+ movement. That same year, to support efforts to achieve marriage equality in New Mexico, the fund established a Marriage Equality Task Force, a time-limited effort to raise funds from local donors to support the efforts of Why Marriage Matters New Mexico.
Envision Advisory Committee & Partners
The fund is staffed by a committee of volunteers who represent the diversity of New Mexico’s LGBTQ+ population. Committee members raise money for the fund, host outreach events, and help make decisions about grants.
